For a time Kid Creole was the paragon of what I wanted to be. Caught his show in D.C. in the mid 80's. The band was tight. Prince level tight. James Brown level tight. The show was a happening. We were there for at least 3 hours and begging for more when he finished. I went out and bought a baggy 3 piece wool suit from the thrift shop. Shined my shoes until they'd blind you. Stopped short of conking my hair though.
Endicott is an aspirational video. The "plan" being to stay "free", mocking all the Endicotts along the way.
Undeniably I became one of them.
I'm not sayin' either way...
I really don't care which decade actually. I want to be Robert Palmer when I grow up (the live version naturally). I actually wooed S.O. with this song.

My mother heard the title to this tune and declared my generation "had just run out."
I had three consecutive cassettes that I just wore out from playing this song.
Just this song, over and over. Just wore them out. Don't even remember what else was on them.
Funkin' For Jamaica was our theme song.
Come to think of it, I was the only drinker in the bunch.
This about dispels any doubts that Karen and I were separated at birth (any difference in age can be explained by a simple time paradox). I luurrve the Bowie. My favorite off that album is Modern Love:
